INTENTION · IMPACT · HUMAN DESIGN
How do other people experience you?
We live ourselves from the inside. Other people meet us from the outside. Those experiences are not always the same.
This is where Human Design and communication meet. Understanding a person’s structure can help us ask what someone else may be picking up, why they may respond as they do, and how to communicate without immediately shrinking ourselves or treating their reaction as a definition of who we are.
“I feel calm—why do people say I create pressure?”
You can enter a room feeling completely calm, while someone nearby experiences intensity, pressure, competition, sharpness, or even a strong attraction. Sometimes this relates to what you are doing. Sometimes it reflects the way your energy meets another person’s system.
In Human Design, some areas of a chart are more consistent: they may broadcast a quality repeatedly. Other areas are open to taking in and amplifying what is happening around us. One person may feel, “I am just being myself,” while someone else experiences that person as very powerful.
The gap between intention and impact
One painful assumption in relationships is that if I did not intend to affect someone, then no impact occurred. But people respond to what they experience: our pace, desire, emotion, pressure, expression, quiet, or strength.
This does not mean making yourself smaller so other people feel comfortable. It can help you stop being frightened by their reaction and ask: what are they meeting in me, and which part of that is actually mine?
What might your chart help you notice?
- Where your way of showing up may feel consistent to other people.
- Where you may take in other people’s energy and feel different across settings.
- Which qualities may seem stronger from the outside than they feel from within.
- Where others may place a role, expectation, or story on you.
